late autumn, early winter 2008 A season for rejoicing, here in Colorado the first ski areas have opened, before Thanksgiving, and yes, as you can see from the book cover reproduced above, I have my own reasons for rejoicing. This is Skiing, another collaboration with my wife and true love, photographer Linde Waidhofer, is a book I have been dreaming about for years. And voilà, here it is. I know as well as any author how many compromises one has to make when working with big-time commercial publishers. But this book is different, my favorite ski writing, essays and poems, combined with Linde's strongest ski images from around this snowy planet of ours. Publishing this new book, with no compromises about content or quality is the result of breakthrough printing technology on the part of an on-line, on-demand book printing outfit called blurb.com. Blurb can actually print, bind and ship stunning 4-color fine-art-quality books when you order them. This is a revoluition in fine book making. This is Skiing is an 80-page, hard bound, full color, 10x8 inch book. It sells for $45, a lot less than the cost of a lift ticket nowadays. To order a copy, and enjoy an on-line preview of the first 15 pages... simply click on the link below which will take you to the blurb.com order and info page for my new book. I plan to post some reviews, and more images from this new book soon. But even though the December issue of my web site is not yet ready, I couldn't resist sharing the news of my new book with you. I am guessing this book will be a splendid Christmas present for skiers you particularly care about. And I hope you will send me some feedback when you see it. Thanks, Lito And with This is Skiing now released, I am continuing to work on other new projects. All summer I have been thinking hard about ski teaching, and ski learning, putting the finishing touches on the manuscript of a new ski book, Soft Skiing Down Hard Slopes. My best ski-instruction book yet for sure. This coming winter I will be photographing all the illustrations so the book itself won't be out until next year. But I am still planning to publish excepts on this web site, this winter. But you don't have to wait. My friends at the Aspen-Snowmass Ski School have just announced this year's dates for the Breakthrough Ski Weeks that I started over ten years ago. This program delivers the most intense, most focused and surely the most successful instruction anywhere, instruction focused on one key task: getting you out of the intermediate rut and into the magic world of real expert skiing. You will find all the info, links, dates and price, plus a downloadable information brochure on my skicourses page. Do check it out. Aditionally, in my autumn ski writing section you will find a prose poem that catalogs just why we wait for winter so eagerly, and what we are waiting for. And in myautumn ski instruction section I take a fresh look at the whole notion of getting in shape for the ski season, and introduce you to my favorite personal trainer.... DVD versions of all three of my classic Breakthrough on Skis videos, are available the visual quality is stunning. DVD really does justice to the 16mm film originals in a way that VHS tapes never did. In DVD format my videos are also easier to view and review. Ordering is also easier than ever, as we finally have a secure online ordering system on this web site. Just click on the "order now" links on the book and video pages of this site. If you prefer to order by phone, you can call Think snow! Lito Tejada-Flores p.s. For those of you who like me love beautiful, rugged, wild, natural landscapes, let me suggest that you visit my wife Linde Waidhofer's photographic web site [www.WesternEye.com] |
